To allow interdisciplinary use of a wide variety of medical devices, modern operating theatres are equipped with separate displays for controlling the devices, diagnostics and surgical support. Video management systems are used to practically allocate the available displays to the ceiling supply unit lights depending on the surgical background of the devices and information calculators used. The defaults for each surgical discipline are individually set and accessed via touchpanels.

This type of video management system can also be used to conveniently transmit content outside the operating theatre. All of the signals are centrally controlled by a crossbar, which distributes them to the displays. Recordings on video content servers and video editing for documentation and educational films etc. are also possible.
