BIM: Pioneering and efficient

Digitization is becoming an integral part of more and more processes and subject areas. Especially when it comes to collaboration, this creates completely new possibilities. Joint projects can be better planned, structured and implemented. For companies, digital working methods bring a lot of advantages.

One of them is the BIM method, which enables a big step forward in the planning of construction projects. Projects can now be planned and modeled virtually, and planning errors can be made visible in advance. BIM also greatly improves the constant exchange of information between all those involved in planning throughout the entire planning process. In this article, we explain why BIM can also revolutionize your company.

Design, planning and implementation using the BIM method

What is BIM?

BIM (Building Information Modeling) is a process in which an intelligent 3D model of the building project is first created using BIM software. This 3D model enables the coordination and simulation of processes and construction phases throughout the entire life cycle of a project - from planning and design to construction, operation and maintenance.

Thanks to this type of transparent project planning, all those involved are always up to date. Among other things, completion times can be better calculated, sources of error can be identified in advance, and costs can be displayed more transparently. But even after the completion of the project, management, maintenance intervals and malfunctions can be displayed and documented using the BIM method.

»Smooth project coordination and collaboration with all parties involved, more efficient workflows, 3D visualization and the resulting improved project results are just a few of the many BIM advantages.«

The communication of the participants is the focus

With the BIM method, building and infrastructure designs can be planned and documented. Every detail of an object, no matter how small, is modeled using BIM software. In this way, plastic visualizations can be created so that, for example, authorities, building owners, specialist planners or construction companies can get a concrete picture of what the building project will look like after completion in the first phase.

This not only enables all the planning and construction teams involved to work more efficiently and cost-effectively, but also enables all the data required for subsequent operation and maintenance work to be recorded throughout the entire process. Every change to a construction project can be analyzed as early as the planning phase and recorded transparently for all those involved in terms of planning and costs.

Through various evaluation possibilities of this digital model it is possible to have all relevant facts and figures of the project, such as costs, deadlines and quantities, available at any time.

Advantages of planning and implementation using BIM

  • Increased planning reliability
  • Higher efficiency and quality
  • Improvement of schedule and cost security
  • Central data management
  • Transparent communication
  • Better networking of all project participants
  • Better exchange of experience
  • Expansion of the competence security
  • Reduction of rework already in the execution phase
  • More detailed planning
  • Automatic documentation
  • Efficiency increase in all construction phases
  • Planning errors are already visible in the model
  • Responsible agents are informed directly
  • Changes are imported into the model and involved project groups are automatically informed about the changes

»BIM makes an enormous contribution to being able to plan, build and implement projects faster, more efficiently and with greater cost stability. The BIM method is absolutely trend-setting and is already mandatory in many countries for new building and infrastructure projects.«

Which industries is BIM interesting for?

BIM offers a clear competitive advantage and is an important step towards digitalization

BIM method is suitable for projects of any size. With the BIM method, the planners of the individual disciplines work on their own model. At certain milestones, the individual specialist models are brought together in a coordination model.

BIM method is particularly useful for these industries:

  • Construction and real estate industry
  • Architecture and engineering
  • Building services and facility management
  • Civil engineering
  • Urban, road and track planning

Every industry and every company is subject to constant change and thus increasing digitalization. For all areas, this type of collaboration offers an enormous competitive advantage in order to realize projects faster, more cost-effectively and in line with planning. BIM takes companies a big step towards digitalization.

DEKOM & BIM

Partner for technological progress and digitalization in companies

Equipping objects and areas with the technology needed to make meaningful use of the BIM approach and to withstand this digitization step requires enormous expertise, technical know-how and innovative competence. DEKOM is the European leader in the field of AV technology, has excellent technical expertise and is therefore the perfect partner to help customers achieve this technological and planning quantum leap.

One example of the successful cooperation in the field of digitization: DB Netz AG and DEKOM have realized a BIM lab of more than 600 square meters at the Karlsruhe location. In order to be able to work with the BIM method for the large-scale project "Extension of the Karlsruhe-Basel section of the line", this BIM lab was planned, built and equipped with the help of DEKOM.

Various areas were created, such as various collaboration and meeting rooms, think tanks, co-working areas, an experimental laboratory, where basic experiences on collaboration possibilities in virtual space are gathered using VR technology, and the heart of the BIM lab, the Cave. In this area, five beamers are used to project 3D models on a scale of 1:1 onto a two-meter high and 6-meter wide semicircular wall and onto the floor in front of it. A person navigates through the model, and spectators can participate in the virtual walk-through with the help of 3D glasses.
