The company was founded in 1942 as Daiwa Kogyo Ltd. in Nagano, Japan. The first Seiko Epson Corporation printer appeared on the market in 1968 under the name of "Elektronik Printer" (EP). Shortly afterwards, the first commercial printer (the world's smallest printer) followed with the name EP-101, from which time on it was Epson Bergauf's turn, and in 1990 Epson Europe BV was founded in Amsterdam and at the same time named European headquarters.
