This year's Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) was impressive again. A lot has happened in the industry in recent years and the developments of new devices have accelerated enormously. Although ISE 2022 is only nine months away, there were once again many innovative technologies and novelties to marvel at this year. We were on site and have summarised the highlights for you.
ISE is THE trade fair for AV and system integration in Europe, where all renowned international hardware and software manufacturers in the industry present their latest products and solutions. Among other things, visitors will learn everything about unified communication, collaboration and hybrid work and can admire video conferencing systems, interactive displays, audio and video technology, impressive LED walls and many other innovative new products.
The fair is accompanied by a supporting programme of conferences and lectures, where participants can delve deeper into specific areas and exchange ideas and network with interesting discussion partners.
Last year, Microsoft surprised visitors to ISE with exciting features for Microsoft Teams, such as the new Front Row, a view mode for lifelike meetings in 21:9 format. This year, too, Microsoft offered its audience a varied programme in which interested parties could inform themselves in various slots about current topics such as inclusive meetings, hybrid working, interoperability or Microsoft Teams certifications.
The success of Microsoft's popular UC platform has led to more and more video conferencing vendors ambitiously working to optimise their solutions for Microsoft Teams Rooms. The news that caused a particular stir in the UC world last year was the announcement of the new partnership between Microsoft and tech giant Cisco. The first video conferencing systems from Cisco certified for Microsoft Teams are to be launched on the market in the course of this year, on which the user can use both platforms - Microsoft Teams as well as Cisco Webex - natively.
As long-standing experts in the field of AV integration and video conferencing, we have maintained a close partnership with Microsoft for many years. For the implementation of Microsoft Teams Rooms (MTR), our sales staff, project managers and technicians were able to obtain comprehensive certification last year. This means that a highly qualified team of specialists is available to you at DEKOM, who will support you with concentrated know-how in the planning and realisation of your dedicated Microsoft Teams Room. Do you have any questions about Microsoft Teams and MTR? Don't hesitate to contact us, we will be happy to advise you!
From the gaming world to business. The 21:9 format is not uncommon on modern desktops, but now the trend is also catching on in the collaboration sector. So we were very interested to see that since last year's ISE, the screen format of many display manufacturers has adapted to the new trend. While last year there was only one supplier, this year no less than six manufacturers presented their latest displays in 21:9 format.
Integrative meetings with Front Row
In addition to an optimised user experience, the introduction of Microsoft Teams Front Row in particular is likely to have driven the development of 21:9 displays. In the new display mode of the video client, the video gallery is moved to the bottom of the screen so that the video conference participants can communicate with each other at eye level. This type of telepresence gives the interlocutors a natural, immersive meeting experience.
More collaboration in the conference room
Thanks to a 33% increase in display width, 21:9 displays offer more space for content, so that multiple documents, files or applications can be easily displayed at the same time. For collaboration, this means that participants no longer have to switch between different views, but can see all relevant windows at once. The 105-inch displays make for more collaborative meetings, more productive workshops and more impressive presentations.
Our long-standing partner Avocor took advantage of the time and developed two versions of the extended screen. Launched at ISE, the L-series will be available as a non-touch version from April 2023 and in touch, probably from June. With 105 inches, crystal-clear 5K resolution with integrated whiteboarding, intelligent sensors for room data and exciting analysis functions, the new products certified for Microsoft Teams are a good investment in collaboration in conference and Microsoft Teams rooms.
I3 has also addressed the growing demand for 21:9 displays by developing a 105" Ultrawide touch screen.
The touch screen, which is certified for Microsoft Teams and Zoom, has enough space to use different applications at the same time. The i3 TOUCH ULTRA thus offers various possible uses in larger conference rooms, whether for use with Microsoft Teams Front Row or to make all components of project planning visible at the same time.
We all remember: at the beginning of the pandemic, Zoom made it big as a free video conferencing tool for everyone. Simple functions, intuitive to use. Since then, we've seen Zoom developers work tirelessly to expand the platform and add new exciting applications and features. Now, at ISE, Zoom showed us the new Zoom One, which combines all major communication channels such as video, chat, call and whiteboarding on one central platform. In addition, Zoom presented four other tools from its product range that offer real added value to companies with numerous new application possibilities.
Zoom Spaces helps employees and teams navigate and connect in the modern workplace. Practical features such as workspace reservations, scheduling displays or digital signage ensure more efficient space utilisation.
Zoom Events is an intuitive platform for virtual and hybrid events. Here, participants can be coordinated and provided with important information, streams and videos can be managed and published afterwards.
Zoom Contact Center provides video-optimised omnichannel availability across all channels. The cloud-based solution with AI chatbot helps deliver accurate and personalised answers to customers' questions and relieves contact centre staff.
This application offers versatile options for developers and platform integrators - from integrating API's to creating apps. Zoom Developers offers additional features such as a developer forum, support sites and developer tools.
Last year, Microsoft and Cisco announced their new partnership. This means that the popular platform will soon be able to be used natively on Cisco's first-class systems. Already in the first quarter of this year, the first Cisco devices are to be certified for Microsoft Teams. We had the opportunity to take a first look at the certified devices at ISE.
Among other things, we were shown the newly certified Cisco Webex Desk Pro, a practical solution for the single workstation. We were also able to marvel at the Cisco Webex Board Pro, a collaboration board with versatile functions for even better collaboration. We were also shown the new Cisco Room Kit EQ with dual display and the Cisco Webex Room Bar. The brand new Cisco solutions not only enable the parallel use of both platforms - Cisco Webex and Microsoft Teams - but are also compatible with Google Meet and Zoom.
We are both a Cisco Gold Integrator and a Microsoft Gold Partner and are always monitoring the latest developments of our partners. We have been following the collaboration between Cisco and Microsoft with excitement, because the integration of Microsoft Teams into Cisco's first-class systems opens up completely new perspectives and possibilities for the UC world. Do you have any questions on this topic? We will be happy to advise you!
Display manufacturer DTEN was also represented at ISE and presented its latest all-in-one collaboration display D7X, which is available in both a single and dual version. The multifunctional collaboration display certified for Zoom convinces with a unique camera positioning and extended whiteboard and video collaboration functions for Zoom Rooms.
The single version of the D7X has five cameras, one above the screen as usual and two more cameras with smart framing function on each side. In video calls, participants are automatically cut out and re-framed at the bottom of the screen. With this innovative camera position, DTEN provides meeting participants and hosts with an even better meeting experience and optimal image quality.
The D7X is available in 55 and 75 inch.
With the brand new D7X Dual, DTEN has developed another unit with an extraordinary design: A vertically mounted video bar is located directly in the middle between the two displays. This positioning automatically creates a more natural and inclusive viewing angle, allowing meeting participants to see and interact with each other at eye level.
The dual version is available in a 55-inch configuration.
At Lenovo's booth, we were introduced to the new ThinkSmart View Plus, a dedicated Microsoft Teams display for the individual workstation or a shared focus room, among other things. The 27-inch multi-touch display, including a 4K IRGB camera with automatic smart framing and dual speakers, is designed specifically for collaboration in a Microsoft Teams meeting environment and offers premium audio and video quality alongside comprehensive whiteboarding capabilities.
A special feature of the display is hot-desking, which allows users to switch between home office and workplace without much effort. One login is all that is needed and users can conveniently participate in Microsoft Teams meetings or access chats, files and calendars. To share screen content, monitor mode can be activated and the ThinkSmart View Plus can be connected to the user's own laptop via USB-C.
This practical solution for the hybrid workplace will be available from mid-2023.
We also paid a visit to our long-standing partner Barco at ISE to see what was new there. And indeed, Barco presented the 2nd generation of its ClickShare Conference CX-50, which came up trumps with extended functionalities. One innovation is that the user-friendly system now supports up to two screens, so that meeting participants can sit on one screen while presentations and other shared content can be displayed on the second screen.
Also new is the direct BYOD extension for Microsoft Teams and the option to automatically switch between room and bring-your-own-meeting mode. Thus, the new version of the ClickShare Conference CX-50 allows native interoperability with the existing system in the room, or participation with any other meeting client.
With its high energy efficiency as well as recycled materials, ClickShare Conference CX-50 2nd Gen is an environmentally friendly and sustainable conferencing solution.
We were particularly impressed by the variety of new transparent LED Walls. The technology behind them integrates the LED chips directly into the glass substrate, giving the panels a high degree of transparency. These panels are then assembled into modules that can be combined to create large-scale displays of virtually any size and shape. This breakthrough technology is revolutionising the way digital displays are used. With the given transparency, these state-of-the-art screens offer a unique visual experience and countless application possibilities.
