More home office, less business trips

Companies, just like people, can learn from mistakes and crises. So why shouldn't the current circumstances bring something positive with them after all?

Many people are currently working, necessarily from home - including German Chancellor Merkel. However, this is not the normal case for most working people. According to a study, every third person is working from home for the first time. This means that a large part of the population was not prepared or equipped to work from home at all. Companies and their employees therefore had to act quickly and create the necessary infrastructure so that everyone could work from home.

Now most of them are sitting in their home office, have the necessary technical equipment, acquire the necessary know-how and companies can manage their teams from anywhere. What would happen if this were to remain so permanently? Would it be easier to combine work and family? Would there be fewer business trips and more free time in general?

The most important studies of recent years show the following results:

  • Home office employees are more productive and more accessible from the employer's perspective. (Study by ZEW - Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research in Mannheim, "Home office offers advantages but also has pitfalls", 2019)
  • Employees in the home office are more productive and are sick less often.
(Stanford University study by Nicholas A. Bloom et al, "Does Working from Home Work? Evidence from a Chinese Experiment", 2015)
  • Productivity is a question of personality. There is also loafing in the office.
(Study by Thomas O`Neil "Prediction of cyberslacking when employees are working away from the office", 2014)
