From now on, customers will be able to hold multipoint conferences in high definition without the need to purchase a large HD MCU. The established MCU service from DEKOM (formerly ViDOFON), which previously has only offered standard definition options, has now been expanded to include a high definition MCU service. This makes DEKOM (formerly ViDOFON) the first supplier in Germany to offer its customers high definition multipoint video conferencing for hire.

“High definition has become an integral part of the video conferencing world - and this applies to multipoint conferences too. However, an HD MCU is still an immense investment that many companies are reluctant to make. Our HD MCU service allows you to enjoy a full high definition experience nonetheless,” says Jörg Weisflog, chairman of DEKOM AG (formerly ViDOFON AG).

The DEKOM (formerly ViDOFON) hardware is able to connect all participants at a resolution of 1280x720 pixels and a rate of 30 images per second, with no loss of quality and in continuous presence layouts. This means that every participant sees all the other participants in HD quality. For participants with HD devices, participants with non-HD systems are upscaled in real time to a resolution up to four times the original so that HD participants can view even non-HD participants in outstanding quality.

The system is extremely easy to use; customers are provided with an IP and an ISDN dial-in number and simply connect to the virtual HD conference room set up for them. Connection PINs can be assigned and conferences encrypted on request.

HD versions of the DEKOM (formerly ViDOFON) Dial-In Video Flatrate and Dial-In Individual rates are now available: the monthly Dial-In HD Video Flatrate fee is EUR 180, and an HD option for Dial-In Individual starts at an additional EUR 1.99.

The original MCU rate will now be marked SD, for standard definition.
